Number two ranked Owensboro hands Marshals sixth loss

OWENSBORO – Going up against the Class 5A #2 ranked Owensboro Red Devils Friday in Owensboro, the Marshals faced a powerful offense and a defense that has only allowed their opponents 67 points after the first six games of the season.

Owensboro has only lost one game to #1 ranked Bowling Green in week four and is ranked #10 among all state classes following their 50-7 win over the Marshals on Friday.

Owensboro lost to Highlands 49-42 in last season’s Class 4A State Championship game and like the Marshals, have made the move to 5A this season.

The Marshals were held to 90 total offensive yards, 45 on the ground and 45 in the air. Colton Lampley led in rushing with 34 yards on six carriers and Jacob Mason had 29 yards on two carries.

Owensboro had 363 yards in total offense with 325 coming on the ground led by Landon Board with 152 yards on just three carries and two touchdowns. Jahlil Barrett had 78 yards on two carries and a TD, Jakaray Weaver rushed for 48 yards on nine carries with a TD and Anthony James 39 yards on seven carries with two TD’s.

Marshall County’s Skyler Smith completed six of 15 passes for 45 yards to Tristen Prange with three catches for 29 yards and Trevor Fisk with two catches for 19 yards. Zach Garland scored the Marshals only touchdown on a two yard run and extra point kick from Daniel Gardner.

Owensboro’s quarterback Zach Gross threw for 38 yards to Tavian Board who caught one for 19 yards and Kishawn Walker with one reception for 22 yards.

Jacob Mason led the Marshals in tackles with nine, six solo and three assisted. Eddie Morris had six tackles, four solo and two assisted and Grant Johnson had a total of five, three of them solo.

After three straight road games, the Marshals will be back home on Friday against Trigg County in their Homecoming game. Trigg County is 2-6 after their 43-7 loss to Caldwell County on Friday.
