BOWLING GREEN – Marshall County’s boy’s golf team placed 8th today at Bowling Green Country Club in the KHSAA State Tournament to advance to the second day of play with the top 12 teams.
The Marshals were led by Quinn Eaton who shot a 2-over 74. Eaton was even par through the first six holes but bogey’s on holes 7 and 8 put him at 2-0ver par through the front nine. Eaton’s two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine cancelled out to bring him in at 2-over 74 tied for 31st.
Jay Nimmo was 2-over through the first 12 holes then a birdie on the 7th put the seventh grader at 1-over through 15 holes. Nimmo had a bogey on the 16th hole to finish his round at 3-over 75 and tied for 38th place.
D.J. Pigg was 1-under through the first four holes after a birdie on the second hole and finished the front nine 2-over following bogeys on five, six and seven. Pigg had seven pars and two bogeys on the back nine to finish 4-over par 76 and tied for 42nd place after the first day.
Garrett Howell was 4-over after the front nine and 4-over on the back nine after a triple and double bogey was cancelled out with three birdies to finish with an 8-over 80. Grant Hackney shot a 14-over 86 for the Marshals.
The top four scores gave the Marshals a team score of 305, just two strokes back of McCracken County and Lexington Christian Academy both tied for sixth at 303.
St. Xavier led the first day with a 10-under 278, 15 strokes better than second place Franklin County with 393. St. Xavier’s Allen Hamilton leads in individual play at 7-under followed by Franklin County’s C.J. Jones at 6-under.
