Calvert City Pink Ribbon Walk set for October 17

pinkCALVERT CITY – The annual Pink Ribbon Walk in Calvert City is just around the corner. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 17 beginning at 9:00am. Participants will meet at City Hall.

This marks the 7th year for Avon Independent Representatives and the City of Calvert to co-sponsor the event. The walk is one mile and organizers also have golf carts available for those who are unable to walk but would like to participate. Door prizes and a fantastic silent auction are on the agenda, as well.

There is no fee to walk but donations are accepted. “In Honor” or “In Memory” signs can be purchased as well as sponsorships. Bronze sponsorships are available at $25, Silver at $50, Gold at $100 and Diamond over $100. are available.

The deadline to order T-shirts for the event is October 6th. To purchase, contact Carol Capps at 270-703-2866 or Donna Cullen 270-703-0272.

This year participants are being asked to bring a new bra to donate to the “THINK PINK PROJECT” which helps women in shelters.

Organizers would like to thank all of their sponsors and businesses for their generous donations of good and services. Funds from the event are passed over to Kentucky Cancer Link. The funds are set aside for Western Kentucky Counties to help breast cancer patients who have needs not covered by insurance.

Last year’s donations totaled approximately $6,000.00 and organizers are looking to top that figure with the 2015 walk.

In addition, two area restaurants are assisting with fundraising efforts. On Thursday, October 1st, 5:00pm-8:00pm, purchases at the Dairy Queen in Calvert City will help the group. On Wednesday, October 14th, The Apple Cafe in Murray will hold an all-day event. Receipts put in the Breast Cancer Box will give credit to the group.
