Family week coming to Marshall County, events on the schedule for each day

MARSHALL COUNTY – This Sunday marks the kick-off of the county-wide Family Week in Marshall County.

Scheduled for Sunday, families are encouraged to attend church together, then enjoy a family and community fish fry from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mike Miller Park. Cost is $5 for children and $10 for adults. All proceeds go to the Marshall County Exceptional Center.

Monday is Labor Day. Families are encouraged to spend the day together. Tuesday finds the three branches of the Marshall County Library hosting special activities for all families. Events run from 5 until 6:30 p.m. The Benton branch will be hosting a program called Discover Treasure. Games, activities and prizes will be available for children. The Hardin branch’s program is called Let the Good Times Roll. Children can enjoy puppets, face painting and a photo fun booth. The Calvert City branch will host Fantasy Lands. Children may explore mythical realms like Oz, Neverland, Hogwarts and Wonderland.

Also, Tuesday, at the Mike Miller Park soccer fields, the Marshall County Animal Shelter will be hosting a fundraiser called Bark in the Park. The event runs from 6-8 p.m. For families and family canines, contests for best hair, best trick, dog owner look alike, best costume and tail wag will be held. Personalized dog collars will be sold, and guests may support the Animal Shelter by bidding in a silent auction. Dr. James Driskell will be on hand to provide annual vaccines.

Next Wednesday will be family night at Gatti’s Pizza of Kentucky Lake in Draffenville. From 5-9 p.m., children 12 and under eat free with a paid adult buffet.

Sept. 10 is Family Night Outdoors. Fishing and games will be available for families in attendance. Some fishing poles will be available and bait will be provided. The event will be held at the Clark’s River Wildlife Refuge Pond, across from WCBL from 4-7 p.m. For more information, call Stacey at 270-205-5087.

On Sept. 11, families are encouraged to attend a sporting event together.

Sept. 12 is Family Fun Day at Mike Miller Park. The event opens with a Family Fun Day Splash and Dash 5k run at 7:30 and 9 a.m. Free Family Fun Day activities will be held at the park’s soccer fields. The Sheriff’s Department will be conducting an Ident-A-Kid program. Other fun including bouncy castles, slides, rock walls, petting zoos and more will be on hand for family fun. Representatives from law enforcement, fire departments, EMS and the Air Evac Medical Helicopter will be on hand  to allow families to meet them and learn of their operations. Face painting and hot dogs will be available.

Jesus Prom 2015 will be Sept. 12 from 3-5p.m. at the Central Church of Christ. It is free to attend for all mentally and/or physically handicapped members of our community.  It will be limited to the first 100 registrants. Caregivers are required to attend with the guest but will be able to enjoy a caregiver respite room.  For more information call 270-252-0330. The dance will have a sock hop theme.
