MAYFIELD – At Mayfield Country Club on Tuesday, the Marshals and Cardinals played to a 151-151 tie with the winning team determined by the score of the fifth player on the roster. Mayfield’s Andrew Watson carded a 42 which was good for the win over Marshall’s Garrett Howell who shot 44.

Marshall’s Jay Nimmo shot the low round of the match with a 1-over par 35 joined by Peyton Porter with 36, D.J. Pigg shot 38 and Grant Hackney a 42. The Marshals are playing without Quinn Eaton who is resting a knee injury.

In earlier matches, the Marshals faced off against McCracken County and Mayfield at Calvert City Country Club on August 17th. McCracken County won the match with a team score of 151 followed by Marshall County with 157 and Mayfield at 161.

D.J. Pigg took medalist honors with a 3-under 33. Also scoring for the Marshals was Peyton Porter with 41 and Jay Nimmo and Garrett Howell each shooting 43.

McCracken County’s scoring came from Avery Edwards 37, Dalton Bagwell 37, Conner Kirkham 38 and Clayton Turnbo 39. Scoring for Mayfield was Paul Wynstra 37, Collins Dodson 40, Hunter Lancaster 42 and Caleb Monroe 42.

Last Saturday the Marshals played in the Ballard Memorial Invitational Tournament at Ballard County Country Club. Coach Keith Bell said the tournament gave them a glimpse of what to expect in the Region 1 Tournament on September 28th.

The Marshals placed fourth out of 14 teams with 307, McCracken took first with 296, Mayfield second shooting 300 and Murray third with 305. D.J. Pigg led the Marshals with 74, Jay Nimmo shot 76, Peyton Porter 77 and Grant Hackney 80.

Coach Bell was impressed by the effort the Marshals gave in the tournament considering the team was playing without Quinn Eaton, one of their top golfers.

“We have been working on our short game during our last few practices and our team score reflects the hard work the players have been putting in”, Bell said. “I really feel this is where we can improve and help our team score the most.”

“Our team realizes that in order to accomplish our goal of playing in the state tournament, we are going to need a team score below 300 in the regional tournament.”

The Marshals will host the teams from Calloway County, Ballard Memorial and Paducah Tilghman Thursday at Calvert City Country Club.
