Lady Marshals volleyball team 5-2 in early season action

DRAFFENVILLE – Opening their 2015 season with two wins against Hickman County and Ballard Memorial, the Lady Marshals volleyball team then won three of five matches this past weekend at the Apollo Summer Slam in Owensboro.

Against Hickman County on August 18th, the Lady Marshals won the first two games, dropped the third then picked up the 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 25-23) win after taking the fourth game.

In their home opener on August 20th, the Lady Marshals beat Ballard Memorial 3-1 (25-13, 18-25, 25-14, 25-13), winning the first game, dropping the second and winning the third and fourth games. The freshman and JV squads each won their matches over Ballard 2-1.

At the Apollo Summer Slam, the Lady Marshals were tested in their first game by last year’s 6th District champion, Henderson County, losing 2-0 (25-16, 25-18) following that game up with the 7th District 2014 champion Caldwell County, dropping that match 2-0 (25-11, 25-21) before winning three straight 2-1 (25-22, 23-25, 15-4) over Edmonson County, 2-1 (25-22, 15-25, 15-12) over Breckinridge and 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) over Calloway County in a 4th District match up.

The defending 4th District champion Lady Marshals finished the 2014 season with a 28-11 record. Five experienced seniors make up this year’s team, seven juniors and six sophomores under fourth year Head Coach Dan Langhi.

The Lady Marshals play two district matches this week at Calloway County on Tuesday then back at home Thursday to play Christian Fellowship.
