Motorists should be prepared for another round of extended lane restrictions on the US 68.KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge at Aurora next week.

The contractor on the New Eggners Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake plans lane restrictions to facilitate an extended concrete pour on Monday, August 24th that will run from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m., CDT.

The contractor plans another extended lane restriction starting Wednesday, August 25th, at 1 a.m., CDT, and continuing to Thursday around 1 p.m.

These lane restrictions are to allow concrete trucks to continue delivering material for construction of the new bridge structure.

Due to ongoing construction activity, motorists should be prepared to encounter almost daily lane restrictions with alternating flow controlled by flaggers. Allowing extra travel time through this work zone is highly suggested.

As a reminder, the length of this work zone has been extended by about 1/2 mile at each end with completion of median crossovers and a traffic shift. The crossovers have allowed two-way traffic to run on the eastbound side of the 4-lane sections of US 68 and KY 80. The shift of traffic is to allow the future roadway connections for the new bridge along the unoccupied westbound lanes. While it will be months before the new connections will be put into service, connections are being constructed now while weather conditions are ideal.

Motorists should slow down and use extra caution in this extended work zone. The entire work zone has a strictly enforced 35 mile per hour speed limit. Commuters should allow extra travel time.

Additionally, the Hot August Blues Festival will create additional traffic volume along this work zone August 27 through August 30th, particularly at the west end of the project near entrances to Kenlake State Resort Park.
