CALVERT CITY – Golf season got underway this past week for the Marshals and Lady Marshals golf teams with a match at Benton Country Club on Tuesday hosting Paducah Tilghman.
The Marshals beat Tilghman 147-202 led by senior D.J. Pigg who shot a 3-under 33 and junior Quinn Eaton with a 2-under 34. Adding to the team score was Grant Hackney and Jay Nimmo, each shooting 40. Also on the course for the Marshals was Peyton Porter and Tyler Powell, each carding 41, Garrett Howell shot 42 and Drew Puteet with 48.
D.J. Pigg and Quinn Eaton each shot a 1-under 35 to lead the Marshals in a win on Thursday at Calvert City Country Club against Trigg County and Murray. The Marshals team score of 153 beat Trigg County by five strokes with Murray coming in third with 167.
Peyton Porter’s 41 and Tyler Powell shooting 42 rounded out the Marshals team score. Grant Hackney and Garrett Howell were both just one shot back posting 43’s.
Trigg County’s scoring came from Carter Scholar and Jackson Vinson, each carding 38’s, Jack Price with 39 and Gabe Cox shot 43. Murray was led by Preston English with 38 followed by a 40 from Bryant Foster, 44 by James Boone and 45 from Noah Newsome. St. Mary had two players at the match but recorded no team score.
Thursday was the first match of the season for the girls, beating Murray 174-187 led by senior Bailey Tyree with 39 and freshman Hallie Riley who shot 40. Adding to the team score was Savannah Howell with 46 and Kennadi Spraggs who shot 49. Also playing Thursday was Karissa Jordan who shot 50 and Sydney Phelps with 58.
Sarah McDowell led the Lady Tigers with 39 followed by a 44 from Alyssa Brunston, 51 shot by Delaney Welsh and 53 from Abbi Waltmon.
The boy’s team is coached this season by Keith Bell and the girl’s are under the direction of first-year coach Stephanie Fisk.
