HOPKINSVILLE – Christian County hosted a 7 on 7 football tournament on Saturday at DeBow Park that included teams from Marshall County,Trigg County, Caldwell County, Mayfield, Madisonville and Todd County.Marshall County Head Coach Evan Merrick felt like it was a good opportunity to come out early in the preseason and compete against some other schools in a 7 on 7 atmosphere.

“We played five games in a round robin format that gave our kids a chance to play at game speed against some good competition”, Merrick said. “Our offense and defense got a chance to develop and as coaches it provided a good early evaluation of our players. Overall I believe we gained everything we set out to do last Saturday and we improved as a team. We have four additional controlled 7 on 7 contests against other schools this week as the open competition window closes. We look forward to the weeks to come which will allow us to focus on ourselves a little more and put together our entire package as we get closer to the beginning of our season.”

The Marshals will open the season with two scrimmages away at Fort Campbell on August 14th and at home against Union County on the 20th with the season opener at home on August 28th against Mayfield.
