Public invited to Courthouse Centennial celebration

Courthouse CentennialBENTON – A celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone for the Marshall County Courthouse is scheduled for today at the court square.

The building will be open at 8 a.m. to allow visitors to view artifacts from a time capsule that was placed inside the cornerstone on July 17, 1915, and a ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. will feature remarks by the keynote address by Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham, a Benton High School graduate, and several other speaker.

A new capsule will be buried as part of Saturday’s ceremony.

Most activities will be moved inside the courthouse because of high temperatures predicted for the day.
