Heat advisory part of hazardous weather forecast for region

???????????????????????????????????????PADUCAH – The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather advisory for the entire area, including counties in western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southwest Indiana and southeast Missouri.

The advisory includes warnings of extreme heat on Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures are expected to rise into the 90s with heat index values in the 105- to 110-degree range, and uncomfortable conditions will continue into the evening hours.

The NWS also forecasts afternoon thunderstorms, mainly over the tri-state area including Evansville, Indiana, and the Kentucky Pennyrile region. Locally heavy rainfall is predicted.

That may impact water levels in rivers in the Jackson Purchase region as well. Flooding will continue along area rivers, the NWS said.

Marshall County Emergency Management has opened shelters at the Joe Creason Community Building in Benton (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.), Calvert City Hall (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Hardin Community Building (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
