OWENSBORO – The Hurricane Golf Tour traveled to Owensboro, Ky., on June 20-21 for the Major Championship at Owensboro and despite heavy rain leading up to the tournament, the opening round began on schedule on Saturday afternoon.

Ownesboro Country Club staff put in a great effort to prepare the course for the weekend’s field of 72 junior golfers.
Sunday’s weather was beautiful, with a steady breeze to compliment temperatures in the 80’s.

The Girls 11-14 Division would see Hallie Riley of Calvert City, Ky., open a commanding lead after the first round of play in the Major Championship, going on to shoot 78-83 for the weekend to win by nine strokes.

Hallie minimized her mistakes on the weekend by mixing in four birdies on her path to victory, building her lead on Owensboro Country Club’s par 3’s and 4’s averaging scores of 3.4 and 4.3 on those holes.

Molly Bebelaar and Jacqueline Steier, both from Louisville, Ky., would take second and third place.
With the win, Hallie receives an invitation to the 2015 HJGT National Championship December 5-6 at Champions Gate in Orlando, Fl.
