MAYFIELD – Only nine runs have been scored against #1 McCracken County by Region 1 teams this season, eight of those have come from the Lady Marshals.

Two of those nine runs came Tuesday when Marshall County held a 2-1 lead through the first three innings, but the powerful Lady Mustang hitters put 10 runs on the board in the final four innings for an 11-2 win and spot in the Region 1 Championship game against Murray who beat Tilghman 8-1 in the other semi-final game.

Abby Fiessinger’s single in the 1st inning got things rolling for the Lady Marshals. Fiessinger stole second base and then scored on a double by Payton Smothers.
The Lady Mustangs answered with a run in the top of the 2nd inning on a home run by Tori Humphrey to tie 1-1.

An RBI double by Hailey Harrell in the 2nd inning put the Lady Marshals up 2-1, a lead they would hold until the 4th inning when McCracken took a 4-2 lead on a 2-run homer by Taylor Poindexter.

McCracken added three more runs in each of the 4th and 5th innings and two in both the 6th and 7th innings while Audrey Dodd in her three innings on the mound for the Lady Mustangs held the Lady Marshals to one hit to finish out the game.

“We played really well with them early on”, Head Coach Kara Hamby said. “They came out ready to play and hit the ball hard early on, but several just right to their players. I think if some of those found gaps it would have been a different ball game. They got the hits when they needed them with runners on base. They are very good at finding the holes and getting those runners across.”

The Lady Marshals ended the 2015 season with a record of 20-10.  Coach Hamby is very happy with the season saying, ” Six of our 10 losses came from top 25 teams. They played hard all season and we just came up a little short.”
