CFSB announces scholarship winners

grad caps1BENTON – CFSB is proud to announce the recipients of annual scholarships to students at Christian Fellowship School and Marshall County High School.

The annual CFS Eagle Scholar is a scholarship awarded from CFSB to a student at Christian Fellowship School meeting certain criteria including, but not limited to, grade-point average, college entrance exam scores, class rank, and community/church activities.

The 2014-2015 CFS Eagle Scholar is Faith Haley, daughter of Susan Haley.  Faith has been active as the Student Council President and a member of the Bible, BETA, DECA, German and Pep Clubs.  She also has been a member of Varsity Track and Field, Cheer, Worship Team and a manager for the Softball team. She will attend Murray State University and plans to major in Spanish or Youth & Non-Profit Leadership.

The Marshall County High School Scholarship Scoreboard is a scholarship awarded to recipients meeting certain criteria including, but not limited to, grade-point average, college entrance exam scores, class rank, and extra-curricular activities.  The dollar amount of this scholarship involves the culmination of monies being added up for every Marshall County Football First Down ($4), Marshall County Soccer Goals ($5), Marshall County Basketball Three Point Shots ($3) and Kasasa K’s (Strikeouts by MCHS Pitchers) in Baseball and Softball ($3).  The total is then divided into four scholarship categories-Academic Female, Athletic Female, Academic Male, and Athletic Male.  

The 2014-2015 MCHS Scoreboard Scholarship recipients are:

Girls Academic: Madison Vaughn, daughter of Darrilyn Vaughn and Timothy Vaughn.  Madison has been involved with the Marching Marshals, FBLA-President, 4-H-Sectretary, Star Bank-Executive Secretary, FCCLA, BETA, Academic Team and DAT.  Her plans are to attend Murray State University or Northern Kentucky University and major in Business with an emphasis in Human Resources.

Girls Athletic: Amanda Bailey, daughter of Tammy and Mark Bailey.  Amanda has been a member of the Marshall County Lady Marshals Basketball team. She has been active with FCA, Yearbook, FFA. Marshall Militia, Dodge Ball and Zion’s Cause Youth Group.  Amanda plans to attend West Kentucky Community and Technical College and major as a Physical Therapist Assistant.

Boys Academic: Tyler Sutherland, son of Brooks Sutherland and Dayna Sutherland.  Tyler has been active with the HOSA, Marshall Militia, Mentoring Middle/Elementary Student and his Church Youth Group. He was also named to the Governor’s Scholar program.  His plans are to attend the University of Louisville and major in Biology.

Boys Athletic: Nathan Solomon, son of Starla and Pat Solomon. Nathan has been a Captain of the Marshals Basketball and Soccer teams.  He has been involved with FCA, FBLA, Marshall Militia, Title XI Student Board Representative and STARS.   He also has been involved with Pathway Baptist Church mission projects and children’s church.  He plans to attend Kentucky Wesleyan College, his major is undecided.

CFSB also congratulates the winner of the annual Star Bank Scholarship. This student must have participated in the Financial Services Class at MCHS, taught by Rebecca Phelps and sponsored by CFSB. Star Bank is the student-run bank at Marshall County High School. In order to receive this scholarship, the student must show terrific leadership skills in this hands-on class.

This year’s Star Bank Scholarship goes to Danielle York, daughter of Lisa and Denny York.  She has been the Vice President of Advertising for two years in Star Bank.  Danielle was also involved with FBLA.  She attained KOSSA certifications in Accounting, Business Management and Finance. Active with the Walnut Street Baptist Church Youth Group, Danielle has volunteered time with Operation Christmas Child as well as with Marcella’s Kitchen. She plans to attend Murray State University and major in Accounting.
