Library focuses on children’s programming as summer draws near

library-lego-mainBENTON, KY – LEGO fans crowded into the Marshall County Public Library @Benton Tuesday night for LEGOPALOOZA. Approximately 335 participants enjoyed various games and activities centered around the popular toy bricks.

“We continue to be amazed by the response our LEGO programs receive,” says Beth Kerrick, Children’s Librarian. “We’re seeing kids of all ages, from toddlers to teens, come to the library for these events.”

The program, which has been held in November in the past, was moved to May this year so the library could take advantage of the additional hours of sunlight. Activities were spread throughout the library and spilled over into Woodmen of the World building next door. The additional space allowed for the addition of new stations and gave participants more room to enjoy the activities.

“Every year we’re learning more and more about how to make this event more enjoyable for participants,” says Kerrick. “It’s important to us that we’re offering quality programs that appeal to families in our community.”

LEGOPALOOZA was the first in a long list of events geared towards children scheduled over the summer. The library’s annual Summer Reading Programs kick off with sign-ups after Memorial Day.

The two programs – one aimed at elementary-aged students and another for teens – each consist of a reading challenge, weekly programs, and special events. According to Kerrick, the programs include animal shows, science programs, magicians, and more. A complete list of programs can be found at www.marshallcolibrary.org.
