MURRAY – With the #1 seed in the district tournament, the Lady Marshals awaited the outcome of the #2 Murray High and #3 Calloway County game Tuesday at Murray.

After Murray took care of Calloway 8-0, the two teams took the field to decide the district championship with Murray coming out on top 9-3 on 11 hits, breaking the Lady Marshals streak of four straight district tournament championships.

The Lady Tigers had the hot bats in their win over Calloway that carried over into their win over the Lady Marshals, getting started in third inning, scoring five runs on two outs, scoring on a combination of hits and Marshall errors.

“They seemed to get the hits when they needed them the most”, Head Coach Kara Hamby said. “Our errors fed into their momentum and we couldn’t seem to get the big play to stop those innings.”

Murray scored four more runs in the fourth on a 3-run homer by Elizabeth Grogan and an RBI single by Loryn Carver.
The Lady Marshals got on the board in the bottom of the fourth that started with a lead-off triple by Bailey Murphy, an RBI double by Addie Young and RBI single by Lexee Miller. The third run of their at-bat came on a ground out by Chaney Stearns.

Both teams stranded two base runners in the fifth with the Lady Marshals turning double plays to end Murray’s sixth and seventh innings.
Murphy led the Lady Marshals at the plate going 2-4 with a double and triple with Miller also 2-4 with an RBI.

“We just need to keep looking ahead and not back for the rest of the season”, Hamby said. “At this point it’s win or go home and they don’t want to go home. They know we have business to take care of and we have four or five days of practice ahead of us to get us prepared for next week.”

The Drawing for the Region 1 Tournament to be held at Graves County May 25-27, will take place on Friday.
