DRAFFENVILLE – The 3rd Annual Mud Madness Run for the Responders event rolled through on Saturday amid cloudy skies and scattered down pours. Despite inclement weather, around 650 participants turned out for the event raising approximately $20,000 for the cause.

The 5k course featured challenges including the all-new 15 ft. tall ‘What the Hay’ obstacle, the 200 ft. drop appropriately dubbed ‘Slide for Your Life,’ the 60 ft. slide called ‘Plummet’ dozens of mud pits scattered from start to finish and tons of challenges in between.

Event organizers say they change the course landscape each year in an effort to keep it new and exciting and the feedback from participants indicates they like what’s being done. Funds from this event are used to host the annual Marshall County Emergency Responders Appreciation Dinner and Banquet, as well as for the newly launched scholarship fund which benefits children of emergency responders and those seeking to enter the field of emergency response.

This year’s Emergency Responders dinner is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th and will serve as the launch to Marshall County’s Family Week program. Scholarship winners will be announced by the end of the month and will be the first group awarded through this new fund.

Organizers wish to thank everyone who has generously sponsored, donated their time, resources or materials to make this event possible as well as to the Marshall County Parks employees, and say they are thankful for the outpouring of support the event has enjoyed over the past three years.
