Community, Girl Scouts offer up sweet tokens of appreciation to Marshall County Rescue Squad members

rescue squadBENTON – Volunteering can often be a thankless job, especially for those who offer their services year-round and are on call 24/7. Emergency responders like the members of the Marshall County Rescue Squad are one such group – but on Thursday night they were reminded that they are never far from the hearts and minds of those in the community.

Toting in boxed bundles of all the favorites –from Samoas to Thin Mints and Tag alongs to Do-si-dos, Girl Scout troop members arrived with goodies for squad during their regularly scheduled meeting last night.

Rescue Squad Chief Curt Curtner says citizens purchased the cookies as a way of saying ‘thank you.’ The Squad had just wrapped up yet another community event earlier in the day, providing a safety watch for clients of the Exceptional Center who were enjoying their annual fishing in the park outing.

This is just one of dozens of community events that Squad members assist with each year, including volunteering all day for events such as the upcoming Mud Madness and A&I Fair week.

Curtner said aside from their state mandated duties to perform land and water search and rescue efforts, as well as assisting numerous other first response agencies when needed, the members of his team enjoy dedicating their time to helping others and are thankful for the opportunity to help ensure the success of these events.
