BENTON – Benton Woman’s Club hosted a Color Run on May 2 for Operation SMILE.  Operation SMILE is an international medical charity that performs surgeries for cleft lip and cleft palate repairs for children in third world countries.

Benton Woman’s Club chose Operation SMILE to be the 2015 International Outreach project.  The Club raised approximately $1,300 to donate to Operation SMILE.  At the Color Run, Matt White spoke on his journey as a child and adult with a cleft lip and palate. He introduced his daughter, Carolina, which was also born with a cleft lip and palate.

Also at the event was 7 month old Madison Gile.  She has underwent her first surgery for the repair of the cleft lip and will have the palate repair done in June, along with an additional surgery in September.  Her parents are Taylor Holmes and Shaun Gile.  Her smile and Matt’s speech are the reasons Benton Woman’s Club is honored to donate to Operation SMILE.  We encourage you to visit www.operationsmile.org  and learn more about this great charity.

Benton Woman’s Club could not have done this fundraiser without generous sponsors.  Those include dentists Brian Doss, Wilson and Smith, Sells and Prather, Cocke, and Cassity, along with City of Benton, Benton Fire Dept, Benton Police Dept, Gwen Moss Photography, Valor Stength & Conditioning, Quality Cleaners, Jeff Smith Real Estate, Polaris of Benton, Shop at Home Carpets, Jefferson Orthopedics, Nashville Dental, and Matt & Stephanie White.

1 mile run winner was 4th grade Christian Fellowship student Wyatt Sanders.  5K overall winner was Wendell Sharp.
