Lady Marshals sweep games in Owensboro, beat #8 Meade County

OWENSBORO – Going 4-0 in the Owensboro Catholic Classic Friday and Saturday, the Lady Marshal’s wins came over Meade County, Valley, North Laurel and Hancock County.

Marshall County vs. Meade County
The Lady Marshals opened up against #8 Meade County on Friday, winning 8-7 after trailing 5-1 after four innings. Their 5-run fifth inning gave them the lead scoring two runs on Abby Fiessinger’s double followed by an RBI double by Payton Smothers.

Two more runs were scored when both Fiessinger and Smothers stole home with the fifth in the inning coming off the bat of Bailey Murphy with an RBI double.
Meade tied the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the fifth but the Lady Marshals scored the go-ahead and winning run in the sixth when Chaney Stearns scored on a sacrifice hit by Smothers.

Smothers’ two doubles and three RBI’s led the way for the Lady Marshals along with Fiessinger with two doubles and two RBI’s and Gabbi Snow getting the save.

Marshall County vs. Valley
In their first game on Saturday, the Lady Marshals beat Valley 15-0 in five innings on 12 hits with Snow getting the win on the mound, pitching three shut-out innings.
The Lady Marshals were led by Stearns who was 2-3 with a double and RBI, Cross 2-3 with a double and two RBIs and Harper who was 2-2 with two RBIs.

Marshall County vs. North Laurel
Scoring five runs in the top of the 2nd, the Lady Marshals went on to beat North Laurel 6-5 on 9 hits.
The second inning scoring began on a two RBI single by Addie Young, a sacrifice by MacKenzie Harper, ground out by Lexee Miller that scored Young and ground out by Stearns that scored Harper.
Murphy hit a solo home run in the third inning the put the Lady Marshals up 6-2.
North Laurel rallied in the fourth to cut the Lady Marshall lead to one and out-hit the Lady Marshals in the game 12-9.
Maegan Renfrow with the win on the mound and Snow the save, allowing just one hit in 2 1/3 innings.

Marshall County vs. Hancock County
The Lady Marshals put five runs on the board in the first inning by an RBI single by Smothers, home base steal by Stearns, RBI single by Cross and a big 2-run homer by Murphy, her second of the day.

In the second inning, Stearns hit a 2-run double that scored Harper and Miller with Cross adding another run on an RBI double that scored Fiessinger to take an 8-0 lead.
A double in the top of the fourth by Fiesssinger scored Stearns for a 9-0 win on 14 hits.
Snow picked up the win in her five innings on the mound, striking out four and giving up six hits.

At 15-5, the Lady Marshals have the third best record in the region behind McCracken County (20-3) and Graves County (17-9) and are 2-0 in district play.
They play at Murray on Tuesday and at home against Christian County on Thursday when Senior Night will be celebrated.
