Fourth annual Empty Bowls fundraising project set for this Saturday, April 18

bowlsDRAFFENVILLE – The fourth annual Empty Bowls project is set for this Saturday, April 18th at the Marshall County High School.  The fundraising event typically draws hundreds of community members and features food from more than a dozen participating vendors.

The Empty bowl project of Marshall County was launched in 2012, and in its inaugural year raised more than $13,000 benefiting Marcella’s Kitchen in Draffenville.

It was seventeen year old Victoria Poston who first brought the idea to the county after seeing the event implemented successfully in Paducah. The community response was overwhelming and the event an instant success. The project raises funds first by inviting participants to come out to any one of the ‘Glaze-A-Thons’ held in the months prior to the Empty Bowl event, where guests purchase, hand-paint and then donate their bowl to the cause.

On the date of the event, the community is invited to come out and purchase any one of the donated bowls for a ticket price of just $15, where they are then invited to fill their bowls with a large sampling of tasty fare served up by area restaurants and organizations.

It is estimated that proceeds from every bowl sold feeds seven people. This year’s Empty Bowl Project will be held Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Marshall County High School commons area. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 or at the Funky Munky Pottery Store in Draffenville and at Marcella’s Kitchen on Griggstown Rd.
