SOUTH MARSHALL – A small gymnasium fire this morning at South Marshall Middle School prompted evacuation of students and two fire departments to respond quickly to the scene. Calls went out just after 9 a.m. dispatching Hardin South Marshall and Benton Firefighters to the scene.
Hardin South Marshall Fire Chief Jeff Edwards reports lighting fixtures in the gym ceiling caught fire. Maintenance crews were able to extinguish the flames and firefighters arrived on scene to ensure there were no additional dangers. 
Chief Edwards reports the students were evacuated to South Marshall Elementary only as a precautionary measure. Children are now returning to classrooms and no other areas of the school were affected.
