Marshals host Big Orange Classic, 5-0 start to season

DRAFFENVILLE – In their first five games of the season, the Marshals have out-scored their opponents 80-6 which includes four shut-outs. Opening the season with wins over Mayfield and Crittenden County, the Marshals hosted the Big Orange Classic Friday and Saturday winning both their contests 16-6 over Clayton, MO and 15-0 over Pinckneyville, IL.
Then on Monday, the Marshals traveled to Hopkins County Central, beating the Storm 19-0 in five innings.

Clayton scored first putting one run on the board in the first inning that the Marshals followed up with two in the bottom of the first that started off with Chandler Rogers and Mason Wooten each hit by pitches to take base, then a single by Blake Johnson brought them both in for runs for a 2-1 lead.

The Marshals added three more runs in the second inning on a double by Wooten that scored Duke, running for Jaco and Wooten scoring on an overthrow to first for a 5-1 lead.
The Marshals went up 11-1 in the bottom of the third than began with Jaco hit by a pitch and walks from Dalton Riley and Justice Beal that loaded the bases.

Jaco scored on a wild pitch followed by a single by Dylan Greenfield for an RBI that scored Austin Poe and single from Rogers brought in Riley.
Beal and Wooten scored on a single by Johnson.

Clayton closed the gap to 11-6 after their five-run fourth inning but the Marshals continued their scoring adding three more runs that began on a walk by Riley, single by Beal and Rogers reaching on an error that brought Beal home followed by two more runs to lead 14-6
The Marshals wrapped the game up in the fifth scoring two runs on two outs by Beal and Greenfield.

The Marshals picked up one run in the first by Riley, scoring on a sacrifice hit by Wooten followed by a five-run second inning that all came on two outs.
Four runs in the third came on a single by Brandon Blossom that brought in Forsythe, Greenfield scored on an error, a ground out by Rogers scored Blossom with Riley adding the 10th run of the game for the Marshals.

Five more runs in the fifth were the result of singles by Blossom, Beal and Riley, a walk by Rogers, sacrifice fly by Wooten and double from Johnson.
Jaco went all five innings on the mound for the Marshals giving up one hit and no runs.

Marshall County 19, Hopkins County Central 0
On 18 hits the Marshals scored 19 runs in their win over Hopkins County Central with a big 12-run third inning. The win was highlighted by a homerun from Greenfield who went 3-5 at the plate with five RBI’s. Wooten and Johnson each with identical stats were 3-4 at the plate with three RBI’s.

The 12-run explosion in the third went something like this beginning with Riley reaching on an error, a double by Rogers, single by Wooten, Johnson doubled, Clark singled, a sacrifice by Jaco, homer from Greenfield, walk by Blossom, double from Beal, Riley hit by a pitch, Rogers sacrifice, Wooten single, Johnson and Clark walked, Jaco hit by pitch, Greenfield single and finally a walk by Blossom.

The Marshals added three more runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to finish out the 19-0 win.
