Several Marshall swimmers qualify for Finals at KHSAA Region One Championships

OWENSBORO – Marshall County High School swimmers completed their season February 13-14 at the KHSAA Region One Championships at the Owensboro Health Park. Both the girls and boys 200 yard medley and boys 200 and 400 yard freestyle relay teams qualified out of Friday’s Preliminaries for Saturday’s finals as well as one individual qualification for Saturday’s finals coming from Jackson Brown in the 100 yard backstroke event. The top 16 in each event moved on to the finals with the top eight in the Final and bottom eight times in the Colsolation Final.
Region One is composed of 28 teams, the largest swimming region in the state, with the top two in each event getting the automatic bid to the KHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships that will take place at Louisville’s Ralph Wright Natatorium on February 27-28.

With their 16th place finish in the prelims, the girl’s 200 yard medley relay team of Sophia Bayer, Brandy Bass, Madelyn Travis and Rachel Prange, qualified for Saturday’s Consolation Final where they placed 16th. The teams from Greenwood and Bowling Green took the top two spots to qualify for the state meet.

The boy’s 200 medley relay team of Jackson Brown, David O’Rear, Coleton Jones and Isaac Bayer placed 13th in Friday’s prelims and 13th in Saturday’s Consolation Final. Owensboro Catholic and Bowling Green took the top two state-qualifying spots.

Coleton Jones, Jackson Brown, David O’Rear and Isaac Bayer for the boy’s, also qualified Friday for finals with a 10th place finish in the 200 freestyle relay prelims, going on the place 11th in the Consolation Final Saturday, but with a faster time.

Jones, O’Rear, Bayer and Jacob Rushing finished 10th in the 400 freestyle relay in Friday’s prelims going on to finish 14th in Saturday’s Consolation Final.

The girl’s 400 freestyle relay team of Prange, Bayer, Travis and Shelbi Spencer also qualified for Saturday’s Consolation Final but unfortunately were disqualified in the event for a false start. The team took 13th in Friday’s prelims to advance.

Jackson Brown’s 15th place in Friday’s prelims sent him on to Saturday’s Consolation Final where he also placed 15th in 1:06.21.

Prelim results for the rest of the Marshals on Friday in the 200 yard freestyle, Rachel Rushing placed 37th and Emelia Andersson 43rd for the girls while Jacob Rushing took 32nd and Wyatt Moshure placed 33rd.

In the 50 freestyle prelims, Rachel Prange placed 34th, Madelyn Travis 39th and Brandy Bass 62nd. For the boy’s, Max Brown placed 52nd, Kyle Hall 58th and Camerson Armstrong placed 61st.

Colton Jones placed 21st in the 100 yard butterfly prelims.
In the 100 yard freestyle event in Friday’s prelims, Rachel Prange placed 48th, Carson Morris 56, and for the boy’s team, Isaac Bayer was 19th, Wyatt Moshure 39th and Ethan Delaney 46th.

In the 100 yard backstroke prelims, Sophia Bayer placed 41st and Emilia Andersson finished 52nd. For the boys, Ethan Delaney took 31st and Cameron Armstrong was 38th.
Brandy Baas placed 38th in the girl’s 100 yard breaststroke event, David O’Rear placed 20th for the boys followed by Kyle Hall in 37th and Cole Williams placing 40th.

The teams from Bowling Green and Greenwood took the top two spots in combined scoring with the Marshall County team placing 17th. Bowling Green and Owensboro Catholic where first and second among boy’s teams with the Marshals taking 17th. Bowling Green once again took first among girl’s teams with Greenwood taking the second spot. The Marshall girls placed 21st overall.
